Manual Therapy
Manual Therapy is the mainstay of most Physiotherapy practice, as such it is highly likely that our Physiotherapists will prescribe and provide a wide range of manual therapy techniques as part of your treatment plan.
Manual Therapy is 'hands-on' treatment provided by a Physiotherapist to decrease pain and improve motion of the targeted neuro-musculoskeletal structures inside a patient's body.
- Treatment may include moving joints in specific directions and at different speeds to regain movement (joint mobilisation and manipulation),
- muscle stretching,
- passive movements of the affected body part, or having the patient move the body part against the therapist’s resistance to improve muscle activation and timing.
- Selected specific soft tissue techniques may also be used to improve the mobility and function of tissue and muscles.
Orthopaedic manual physiotherapists treat acute and chronic symptomatic conditions in body regions including the head, neck, back, arms and legs. Early, consistent and skilful manual physical therapy, combined with exercise and patient education, is central to our Physiotherapists practice.
